Little Ones Who Believe
So
I'm being a somewhat reflective for my kids. Here's a little
background. As a family, we read the Bible almost every day and breathe
prayers together often throughout every day. I've also made it a point
to pretty much give the salvation message every day and we often pray
versions of "the sinner's prayer". We also have a very good church home
who shares the gospel with everyone, including kids with special needs
on their level. So they've had a very good foundation. And at some
point, I believe all 3 of my kids have truly meant what they said in one
of our "sinner's prayers" and have asked Jesus to be their Lord and
Savior. But for them to verbalize their relationship with Jesus in a
clear and concise way to people outside our home has been too difficult
for them to do. My son, who is my youngest, every day for about 2 months
kept persisting on getting baptized. While he doesn't really understand
exactly what a lifetime commitment to Jesus is, he did understand that
being just like Jesus meant getting baptized. My oldest daughter also
decided she wanted baptized too. So on this past Wednesday, Aug. 12th,
2015 at our local lake, Lake Murray, I baptized all 3 of them, simply
saying, "because you want to be just like Jesus and follow Him in
baptism, I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit.". Afterwards, I felt at peace with knowing that I did all I
could do to allow my children to be obedient to God's word and yet at
the same time realizing that they might in the future want to get
baptized again after confessing Jesus as Lord. I felt very sincerely
that they would have become bitter towards me and Christians in general
for not allowing them to do this very simple thing. And far be it for me
to become a stumbling block to them in being obedient to what God has
commanded all believers to do.
Mark 9:42New American Standard Bible (NASB)
42 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
So in all this, I am just very thankful and at peace, knowing that I've done all I can to lead my family in Him, special needs and all.
